Simpson's Sheep Just Want to Sleep!

TITLE: Simpson's Sheep Just Want to Sleep!
AUTHOR: Bruce Arant
PUBLISHER: Peter Pauper Press, Inc.

''These stubborn sheep,'' the farmer sighs,
''won't open up their sleepy eyes.
But I know how to wake this crowd.
I'll make some noise and make it loud.''

This is a very cute book.  I love books with rhyming text.  This one has cute illustrations as well and I just love the way the book ends.  (I won't tell you what that is.)  The farmer tries many different noisy methods to wake his sleepy sheep.

I found this book at the library, and my little guy and I enjoyed reading it.  We read it several times.  This is appropriate for 1st/2nd graders.

Remember the Ladies

TITLE: Remember the Ladies
AUTHOR: Callista Gingrich
ILLUSTRATOR:  Susan Arciero
PUBLISHER: Regnery Kids

Look at this cute, informative book in the Ellis the Elephant series by Callista Gingrich.

About the book:
Ellis the Elephant is headed back to the White House! In Remember the Ladies, the seventh in Callista Gingrich's New York Times bestselling series, Ellis meets some of America's greatest first ladies and discovers their many contributions to American history.

In preceding books, including Sweet Land of LibertyLand of the Pilgrims' PrideYankee Doodle DandyFrom Sea to Shining SeaChristmas in America, and Hail to the Chief, Ellis learns about the pivotal moments that have shaped our nation. Now, in Remember the Ladies, this adorable pachyderm explores the fascinating lives of our first ladies.

My thoughts:
I am familiar with Ellis the Elephant after reviewing two previous books in the series.  I have also reviewed Christmas in America and Hail to the Chief in this series.

In this book Ellis learns about some of the first ladies. I liked the rhyming text and how it spotlights how each first lady has her own significant contributions to our country.

This book is geared for children aged 4-9.  It would be appropriate for an elementary classroom/library or for your personal library.  At the close of the book is 7 pages with a  listing of all the first ladies with a paragraph about each one.

This book makes it fun to learn some of our country's history. Plus the elephant is pretty cute too!

I'm Not a Scaredy Cat

TITLE: I'm Not a Scaredy Cat
AUTHOR:  Max Lucado
ILLUSTRATOR: Shirley Ng-Benitez
PUBLISHER:  Tommy Nelson

Best selling author Max Lucado has a new children's book called I'm Not a Scaredy Cat A Prayer for When You Wish You Were Brave.

"I'm a big cat.  I'm a strong cat.  I'm not a scaredy cat....except when...."

This little cat has times when he is afraid like when "noises are loud" or when the slide made his "tummy flippy-flop."  When he is afraid he knows to pray.

The illustrations are wonderful.  I like the cute cat going through his various fears.

This book is appropriate for ages 6-10.  I feel it would be good for parents to read this book to have conversations with their children regarding their fears and how to handle them.  I think it is important for children to know what to do when they are afraid and this little cat is a good example to pray during those times.

I enjoyed this book and hope you will check it out for yourself.  Here is a link where it can be purchased.

There is a giveaway too!  I bet you know a little one who would enjoy having this in his/her home library!  Click here to enter the giveaway!

I received a copy of this book from the FrontGate Reviewers Program.  This review is my honest opinion.  Thank you.

Maverick and Me

TITLE: Maverick and Me
AUTHOR: Katherine Schwarzenegger
ILLUSTRATOR: Phyllis Harris
PUBLISHER: Worthy Kids

If you have animal lovers in your life, you should check out this newly released book called Maverick and Me by Katherine Schwarzenegger and illustrated by Phyllis Harris.  Let me share a little bit about it with you today.

About the book:
Dog lover and animal advocate Katherine Schwarzenegger draws from her own experience with fostering and adopting dogs to create a picture book that introduces children to the concept of adopt, don't shop.

In the heartwarming story of Maverick and Me, Maverick is rescued by a kind-hearted stranger after being dumped on the side of the road. The little puppy's luck takes a turn for the better when young Scarlett meets him at an adoption event. Scarlett is so moved by Maverick's story that she and her mother decide to give him the forever home he is looking for.
Each year, millions of dogs find themselves in shelters and with animal rescues through no fault of their own. Maverick will help teach children about these dogs and empower even young readers to advocate for shelter pups.

My thoughts:
I found this to be a sweet story about a girl named Scarlett and how she decides to adopt a little puppy. I like how she then goes on to share with her friends about rescuing animals as well.  The illustrations are perfect for the story I thought.

This book is a good story and a clear message for young children on the value of pet adoption.

I have a two year old, and he picked this book to read off the shelf several times.  Some of the text on the page I shortened on some readings but it held his interest and he liked it.  I recommend this book to you for your home, school, or classroom library for young ones in PreK--early elementary.
This is the website for this book.  Be sure to visit it also.  This book released this week and you can buy it now!

A copy of this book was provided to me from the publisher as I was chosen to be part of the launch team.  Opinions expressed are mind. Thank you.

Thank You, God, for Grandma

TITLE: Thank You, God, for Grandma
AUTHOR: Amy Parker
PUBLISHER: Tommy Nelson

Grandmas are important people!  Check out this new book by Amy Parker to celebrate the special relationship between a grandmother and her grandchild.

About the book:
Thank You, God, for Grandmas, Nanas and Mimis too, Gigis and Grams and Grandmommies—They’re great, grand gifts from You!

No matter what you call her, there is nothing like the love between a grandma and her grandchild! With sweet, rhyming text and adorable illustrations, Thank You, God, for Grandma encourages little ones to treasure God’s special gift of grandmothers.

My thoughts:
Thank You, God, for Grandma by Amy Parker is a sweet board book for little ones to share with their grandmother.  The grandmother and her grandchild in this book do all sorts of things together like play dress up and bake treats.  It reminded me of time with my Meemaw as a child and time my boys have with their Gramma.

The rhyming text makes it appealing for preschoolers to have read to them and also the illustrations are colorful and inviting.

This would make a nice gift for a grandmother's birthday, Grandparent's Day, or Mother's Day.
