God Made You Nose to Toes

TITLE: God Made You Nose to Toes
AUTHOR: Leslie Parrot
ILLUSTRATOR:  Estelle Corke
PUBLISHER: Zonderkidz
COPYRIGHT:  2002 (illustrations 2017)

About the book:

Help little ones understand that God created each part of their bodies so they can enjoy life and everything in it. In this delightful padded cover board book by well-known author and family therapist Leslie Parrott, children can follow along with Toucan––with a great big nose––as he helps them learn God loves each one of them completely.

My thoughts:
This is a most enjoyable book. My little boy (20 months) asks me to read it over and over.  The rhyming text is fun and the pictures are great.  It talks about how God made all of our body parts so it is fun to read and point to body parts.  This is board book and perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.  I recommend it to you for your little friends to help them learn that God loves them and made all their parts.

Hail to the Chief

TITLE: Hail to the Chief
AUTHOR: Callista Gingrich
ILLUSTRATOR:  Susan Arciero
PUBLISHER: Regernery Kids
COPYRIGHT: 2016

Our country's election is right around the corner.  We have had some amazing Presidents through our country's histroy and this book is a fun way to introduce children to some of them.  Let me tell you a little bit about a wonderful children's book called Hail to the Chief by Callista Gingrich and illustrated by Susan Arciero.

This book is part of the "Ellis the Elephant" series.  I reviewed another book about this cute elephant here.

In this book Ellis meets some of our presidents along with a few facts about what they did during their presidency.

The illustrations are adorable, and I felt the presidents were very recognizable even though they were cartoons.  I love the rhyming text.  That makes it really appealing to me, and I think that it will make it more interesting for children to pay attention and learn from this book.  This would make a wonderful addition to your classroom library for an America unit or when you study Presidents in February.

I received this book from the publisher for my review.  Thank you.

Two board books

AUTHOR: Mary Manz Simon

PUBLISHER: Worthy Kids
COPYRIGHT: 2016

What a cute set of board books for your little girl or guy! Check out these two books God Made the Moon and God Made the Sun by Mary Manz Simon and illustrated by Lizzie Walkley.

We liked the rhyming text of these books and the fun illustrations. They have a cutout in each page where the moon/sun appear on each set of pages. Your little one will learn different ways the moon blesses us in the night and how the sun is there for us in the daytime. These books are not overly long but do have some educational points to them as they show things we can do at night or day.

My son and I enjoyed reading these books together.

You can visit the website of the author, Mary Manz Simon, here.

I received this set of board books from the First Look blog tour for my honest review. Thank you.

Pumpkin Patch Blessings

We've had a week of cooler temperatures here in Texas, and it makes me look forward to the days of fall.  This cute little book will help you and your little one prepare for fall.

Pumpkin Patch Blessings by Kim Washburn and illustrated by Jacqueline East is a sweet board book for youngsters to learn about the blessings we can find around us during the fall season.  Blessings like colorful, crunchy leaves, roasted corn, hay rides, scarecrows, and pumpkins growing in the field.

I enjoyed this book and think it would be appropriate for toddlers and preschool aged children.  I like that this book shows many of the things we see in the fall season and helps the child be thankful for these things.

Messi Superstar

TITLE: Messi Superstar

PUBLISHER: Duo Press
COPYRIGHT: 2016

About the book:
Millions of kids around the world know Lionel Messi, and they all know he is really good. But do they know how good he really is? To answer this question, this engaging book goes beyond a traditional biography and describes Messi’s life and record-breaking career through the use of fun graphics, comparisons with past and present players, playful reader challenges, and pages chock-full of interesting facts.

My thoughts:
I know nothing about soccer so I was not familiar with this player.  However, this book is a great little resource of information for children to learn more about this soccer player.  I liked how the information was presented with graphs and charts, not words alone.  The size of the book is smaller than a standard book.  The pages are colorful and full of graphics.

I could see a teacher using this book with a soccer fan to help him/her enjoy reading or to teach about using information from the graphs.  This book will be well received by soccer fans I believe.

This book was provided to me by the publisher Duo Press in exchange for my honest review.  Thank you.

I was impressed with this book...it's format, illustrations, the information presented.  This is a great nonfiction read for children in the intermediate grades (3rd--5th).  You are sure to learn a thing or two at least by reading this book!

PUBLISHER: Little Bee Books
COPYRIGHT: 2016

I want to tell you about a children's book called The Best Part of Daddy's Day by Claire Alexander today.

Little Bertie wishes he could go to work with his Daddy, but he has to go to school instead.  Bertie wants to be just like his Dad, and when he is on the playground, he thinks he sees his Dad up in the crane.  After school Bertie shares about his day.  Not all of it was good.  Daddy tells him about his day, including the things that went wrong for him.  They both agree their favorite part of the day is when they are together.

This would be a sweet book for your child to read with his/her Daddy and would be good for Father's Day.  I know youngsters will enjoy these pictures of the dogs and machinery at Daddy's workplace in this sweet book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Little Bee Books, in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!

Trains, Boats, and Planes

TITLE: Trains, Boats, and Planes
AUTHOR: Peter Curry
ILLUSTRATOR: Peter Curry
PUBLISHER: Little Bee Books
COPYRIGHT: 2016

Trains, Boats, and Planes by Peter Curry is a colorfully illustrated board book that features trains, boats and planes. A couple different types are listed for each.

This would be a good book for toddlers to introduce them to these different types of transportation and expose them to the vocabulary of the names of the vehicles.  The book is very simplistic without any text except for the names of the various vehicles. (On a side note I wasn't sure why there was a period following the name labels on each page since it was only a word and not a sentence.)

The illustrations add to the appeal of this book.

I received this book from the publisher for my honest review. Thank you.

Once I was a pollywog,but now I am a frog.

Once I was a piglet,but now I am a hog.

Once I Was a Pollywog is a fun little board book by Douglas Florian and illustrated by Barbara Bakos.

This is a rhyming book that shows the animals as babies and then as the grown up animals they become.  At the end there is a baby boy.  The animal pictures are cute with the baby on one page and the grown up animal on the next.

My little guy has enjoyed me reading this book to him and likes to growl when we get to the bear page.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review. Thank you.

Would a Worm Go on a Walk?

Would a worm go on a walk, if you could lead him down the street? / Would he wear his tiny tennies, if he had four worm-sized feet?

TITLE: Would a Worm Go on a Walk?
AUTHOR:  Hannah C. Hall
ILLUSTRATOR: Bill Bolton
PUBLISHER: Worthy Kids
COPYRIGHT: 2016

Would a Worm Go on a Walk? is a brand new book out this week.  It is written by Hannah C. Hall and illustrated by Bill Bolton.

This book contains questions about different animals and what they would do.  The point is to show how they are each uniquely created by God. They don't do those things because that is not what God made them to do.  The same is true for us as humans too!  He made each of us with special qualities, unlike anyone else, and we have a special purpose and function here.

I absolutely loved this book!  It has such great pictures to go along with the wonderful message. Please consider adding this to your child's library.  It would be a great gift for you to pick up for a special child in your life.

You can visit the author's website here.

This book was provided to me by the publisher for the First Look Blog tour for my review.  Thank you.

Messy Molly

TITLE: Messy Molly
AUTHOR:  Jo Williamson
ILLUSTRATOR: Jo Williamson
PUBLISHER: Little Bee Books
COPYRIGHT: 2016

Poor Molly!  She is always getting into a mess. Whether it is rain puddles, ice cream cones, or spaghetti, Molly cannot seem to stay clean.  One week she decides to try her hardest not to get dirty because she has a special school program on Saturday.  Will she make it to the program and still be clean?

This is a cute picture book by Jo Williamson. As a teacher I could see it being used in an early elementary classroom to reinforce a lesson on the days of the week. The illustrations throughout the book use only the colors seen on the cover.  This book would be enjoyed by children aged 4-6.

This book was sent to me by the publisher for my honest review.  Thank you.

Baby Loves Sports

TITLE: Baby Loves Sports

Baby Loves SPORTS is a board book from Duo Press.  This is a "high-contrast" book. (It is interesting to read the research on the value of  high-contrast books for babies if you are not familliar with what this is.)

I have read a few high-contrast books with my baby and found this one to be of good quality all around. Each page has a different sport featured. One page will have a player and the opposite page will have the ball that goes with that sport.  Black and white are the dominant colors; however, there are some dark colored background pages too.

My baby boy (11 months) likes touching the pages and reaches for the balls.  He has enjoyed looking at it multiple times.  This book would make a nice baby shower gift or to add to your baby's library.

This book was sent to me by the publisher for my review, these opinions are mine.  Thank you.
